Motorist Awareness Imperative During Harvest Season

 width=If you live in central Illinois, it's by now very difficult not to notice farm machinery all over the fields, which means those machines are likely to make their way to major roadways.

Annually, the harvest season brings on a spike in motor vehicle and farm implement accidents. Clinton Police Chief Ben Lowers explains, while it's not always ideal, motorists need to more aware and respectful of the farm implements seen on Illinois roadways during the harvest season.

The distracted driving is a prevailing occurrence law enforcement has battled in recent years with the advancements in mobile phone technologies. Chief Lowers urges drivers to put the electronics down, especially when near farm implements.

The Chief says distracted driving in 2014 has come to having cell phones out and motorists on the phone or texting and driving. He says there's no need for that, and implores motorists to limit the distractions while behind the wheel.
