Interest Strong in Growing and Selling Medical Marijuana

Nearly the entire state of Illinois saw a fair amount of competition with applications for cultivation centers and dispensaries for medical cannabis, according to the latest release from the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation.

Of the one-hundred-fifty-nine cultivation center applications, the most came from Grundy, Kendall and Will counties. Downers Grove in District 15 didn’t have any applications. As for applications to open up dispensaries, of the two-hundred-fourteen filed, the most were in Dupage county with none being filed for Dekalb.

But, it won’t end there … The state says they will open up a second application period for districts where no qualified applications were submitted.

The state brought in nearly five-million dollars in application fees from the interested businesses, money state officials say will stay within the program to keep it self-sustaining.
