Blackhawks, Blues Open Regular Season Tonight

(St. Louis, MO) -- The Blues begin the regular season on home ice as they host the New York Rangers tonight at Scottrade Center. The Blues lost to the Blackhawks in the first round of the playoffs last year, while the Rangers made it all the way to the Stanley Cup Final before losing to the Kings.

(Chicago, IL) -- The Blackhawks will be without forward Kris Versteeg to start the season. Head coach Joel Quenneville [[ KWEN-vill ]] says Versteeg is expected to miss about three weeks with a lower-body injury. Versteeg had 10 goals and 19 assists in 63 regular season games for the Blackhawks last season. Chicago opens the season tonight at Dallas.

(Undated) -- The NHL regular season is underway. The slate kicked off with four games on Wednesday. The Los Angeles Kings raised their Stanley Cup championship banner prior to a 4-0 loss to the San Jose Sharks. The Boston Bruins scored late to secure a 2-1 win over the visiting Philadelphia Flyers. North of the border, the Montreal Canadiens scored with under a minute to play to sink the Maple Leafs 4-3 in Toronto. The Vancouver Canucks outdueled the Calgary Flames 4-2 in Alberta. There's a full slate of games Thursday, including the Bruins, Flyers and Flames playing back-to-backs.
