The McLean County coroner and the Bloomington fire chief have jointly announced plans to retire in mid-November.
Beth Kimmerling, county coroner for the past 14 years, and Mike Kimmerling, a 27-year veteran of the fire department, said Friday that they will step down from their positions. The husband and wife, who reside in Normal, both cited a desire to spend more time with family due to the emotional demands of their jobs.
Beth Kimmerling has served as McLean County's elected coroner since 2000. Although her current term doesn't expire until 2016, she will spend her last day at the coroner's office on Nov. 14.
Mike Kimmerling was appointed as Bloomington's fire chief in August 2009 following the retirement of former Chief Keith Ranney. His final day at the fire department will be Nov. 11.
