Apple and Pork Festival Corn on the Cob Sales Benefit Youth of Wapella Christian Church

width=Each year, the annual Apple and Pork Festival is a way for local community groups to improve the outlook of their yearly budgets.

For many, it helps make up a majority of their yearly revenue and for others, it has a specific purpose. Wapella Christian Church's tent each year sells corn on the cob to help raise money for their youth group. Pastor Phil Yakey explains the money goes towards events through the year the kids participate in.

While the Village of Wapella is not a big community, Yakey feels they have a good mix and credits their Youth Director Sarah Laughlin with doing good work among the kids on a part time basis.

Because the money goes towards the youth group, Yakey explains they try to get their kids involved. He notes the Apple and Pork Festival is a great way to give them something to do on the last weekend of September each year. And even though their tent sells corn on the cob and a few drinks, Yakey says there's plenty to do for their volunteers.

The Wapella Christian Church recently remodeled their youth room. Yakey explains because kids are drawn to technology in it's many forms, he is pleased the church has been able to keep pace. He explains their renovated youth room has a new projector and sound system, which has been a great addition.
