Members of the Illinois Legislature are to discuss how a proposed eavesdropping law would affect police use of body cameras.

The Illinois House Judiciary Committee will meet Friday morning in downtown Chicago. State Sen. Kwame Raoul, a Chicago Democrat, and state Rep. Elaine Nekritz, a Buffalo Grove Democrat, will co-chair the hearing.

Raoul says it's important to talk about the use of cameras as lawmakers write eavesdropping legislation. The Illinois Supreme Court in March struck down the state's eavesdropping law, saying it is too broad.

The cameras can attach to police officers' uniforms to record encounters with the public.

Last month two Illinois lawmakers pushed for a hike in traffic and other fines to raise money for police body and dashboard cameras.
