Quinn, Rauner Get Newspaper Endorsements

Republican businessman Bruce Rauner has picked up three additional newspaper endorsements in his campaign for Illinois governor while incumbent Democratic Gov. Pat Quinn has earned the endorsement of the Rockford Register Star.

The (Springfield) State Journal-Register, The (Bloomington) Pantagraph and the (Decatur) Herald and Review on Sunday all endorsed Rauner in editorials.

The Bloomington, Decatur and Springfield newspapers cited Illinois' pension crisis, tax rates and employment rate in making the endorsements. The Springfield newspaper said Rauner's "growth-minded reforms" may be what Illinois needs to revive itself.

The Rockford newspaper says Quinn needs another term to sustain momentum made in falling unemployment and rising job creation.

Rauner has previously earned endorsements from newspapers in Arlington Heights, Belleville, Champaign, Chicago and Peoria.

Quinn has said it's more important to get voters' endorsement.
