Lincoln High School Superintendent Doesn't See Conference Change Despite Woes on Football Field

width=Despite their shortfalls on the football field on almost a yearly basis, Lincoln High School's leader says a conference change is likely not in their future.

Conference realignment has become a recurring theme among schools big and small across the state as lesser competitive and smaller districts try to better set themselves up to compete on the gridiron. However, Lincoln High School, who just wrapped up it's second winless campaign in a row Friday night, is likely not to make a conference switch because according Superintendent Robert Bagby, football is about the only activity they have they are not competitive in in the Central State Eight.

Despite not being competitive in football, Bagby points to the football powerhouses that are currently in the Central State Eight. Rochester had won four straight state football championships, a first for any public high school. He also notes schools like Springfield Sacred Heart Griffin and Chatham Glenwood among a few others are annually playing deep into November in the football playoffs.

The Lincoln High School staff, coaches, administrators and school board members, have had discussions on a conference switch in the past, but Bagby says no vote was ever taken to leave the Central State Eight, and there was only one invite from another conference in Central Illinois. He says they have chosen to not base a conference switch on one sport.
