(Chicago, IL) -- It looks like Joe Maddon will be managing in the Windy City. CBSSports.com reports the former Tampa Bay Rays skipper is close to a deal to become the skipper of the Chicago Cubs.  width=The deal is expected to make Maddon one of the highest-paid managers in baseball. He opted out of the final year of his contract with the Rays on Monday after nine seasons. Rick Renteria is currently the manager of the Cubs, who finished 73-and-89 this season.

(Chicago, IL) -- The Cubs are making room on their 40-man roster. Chicago has outrighted outfielder Ryan Kalish, infielders Chris Valaika and Josh Vitters and pitcher James McDonald. There are 37 players on the 40-man.

(Cincinnati, OH) -- Johnny Cueto [[ KWAY-toh ]] is staying home in Cincinnati. The Reds have picked up his 2015 option, but the team hasn't announced the move yet despite it showing up on the league's official transactions. Cincinnati did not pick up options on outfielder Ryan Ludwick and infielder Jack Hannahan. Cueto went 20-and-9 with a 2.25 ERA this past season.
