University of Illinois Building $13.3-Million Feed Complex

The University of Illinois plans a new $13.3 million animal-feed technology complex with several millions dollars in state help.

Gov. Pat Quinn said Friday the state will provide a $3.5 million grant for the new complex on the university's South Farms. The rest of the money will come from private donors, agriculture groups in the state and Chicago-based Archer Daniels Midland Company.

Students will use the new complex to make customized animal feeds for research and classwork in crop and animal sciences, nutrition and food science.

The new complex will replace the university's century-old feed mill.
