DeWitt County State's Attorney Appointed Circuit Judge

DeWitt County's current State's Attorney will soon have a new role.

Karle Koritz has been selected to fill the current vacancy of Resident Circuit Judge of DeWitt County in the Sixth Judicial Circuit.   The position has been vacant since the passing of the Honorable Garry W. Bryan.

Koritz's appointment was announced this week by Chief Justice Rita B. Garman.  It takes effect on December 5th, 2014, and will terminate on December 5th of 2016.

Koritz was recommended to the appointment following an application and review process that included evaluation by a specially selected seven person screening committee.  Six persons had applied for the position.

Koritz calls the appointment a (quote) "tremendous and humbling honor." (end quote)  He also thanked Chief Justice Garman and the Illinois Supreme Court for the confidence they have placed in him with the appointment.  He notes it will be a privilege to follow Judge Bryan on the bench.

Koritz was elected to the position of DeWitt County State's Attorney in 2012.  He tells Regional Radio News that he will continue to fill that role.  His plans are to resign that position in December once the newly elected DeWitt County Board has been seated, but before his appointment takes effect on December 5th.  He says it will then be up to the DeWitt County Board to make an appointment to the position of State's Attorney.
