DeWitt County Man Faces Battery Charges For Altercation Following DeWitt County Board Meeting

A DeWitt County man faces a battery charge for an incident following a DeWitt County Board meeting.

Court records indicate 58-year old Bill Spencer faces a Count 1 Battery charge for events that followed the September 11 DeWitt County Board meeting.

Following the meeting, Spencer engaged Dustin Peterson in an unprovoked altercation. Peterson did not retaliate. Peterson is the head of the DeWitt County Republican Party.

Peterson did not press charges, but because the incident took place on public property, evidence went to a special prosecutor and it was determined charges should be filed.

Tom Brown has been brought on as the special prosecutor for the case.

Spencer has been issued a notice to appear for arraignment November 13 at 1:30 pm.
