Mahomet Man Sentenced In Newspaper Carrier Attack

A Mahomet man has been sentenced to four years in prison for attacking a newspaper carrier.

According to reports, 20-year-old Colby Cohoon was sentenced after pleading guilty in September to aggravated battery.

Assistant State's Attorney Lindsey Clark says the victim and his wife and child were in their vehicle and delivering newspapers early July 5 in Mahomet. Clark says the man dimmed his bright lights as another car approached, but Cohoon pulled over, got out of his car and started yelling at the man.

Clark says Cohoon used a glass bottle to break through the driver's window and hit him in the head. The man was treated for cuts at a hospital.

Clark had prior convictions including criminal damage to property and domestic battery. He was given credit for 119 days already served.
