National Nutritionist Emphasizes Importance of Dairy Products

One national nutritionist is attempting to debunk myths regarding certain foods. 


Christopher Speed , Dietician from NYU, explains dairy is one of the major food groups that should not be removed for the everyday diet. He says many are removing dairy due to thoughts of its harm to general health. Yet, Speed notes dairy provides many important nutrients including calcium. He adds most calcium supplements are not suitable substitutes for dairy foods.

Speed notes calcium shouldn't be taken out of context with other nutrients. He says calcium taken without the proper vitamins may not be led to the proper cells and bones which could increase the risk for heart disease.

Speed stresses any food can be harmful to the body when not taken in moderation.
