Parts of Illinois To See Temps Drop

Weather officials say it's time to bundle up and take it slow on the roads.

Winter weather advisories are in effect through early Monday morning for parts of Illinois, including storm warnings in the far southern regions of the state. The National Weather Service says areas along the Ohio River in southern Illinois should be prepared for sleet and snow.

In other parts of Illinois, temperatures are expected to dip into the teens into Monday evening. That includes Chicago, Belleville and Springfield.

Commuter agencies and some cities they're gearing up for the cold.

The Chicago area's Metra commuter rail agency unveiled new snow-fighting equipment and communications strategies to deal with the weather. Chicago officials say the city has a bigger stockpile of salt and more snow plows than last year.
