THE STATE IS OPENING MORE THAN 100 WARMING CENTERS AROUND ILLINOIS.

STATE DEPARTMENT OF HUMAN SERVICES SPOKESPERSON JANUARI SMITH SAYS THERE ARE SEVERAL SPOTS WHERE YOU CAN AT LEAST TEMPORARILY WARM UP THIS WINTER.

SMITH SAYS AGENCY OFFICES ARE NOW OPEN MONDAY THROUGH FRIDAY DURING REGULAR BUSINESS HOURS TO HELP PROVIDE SOME RELIEF FROM THE COLD.

SMITH SAYS THEY ARE ALSO ENCOURAGING PEOPLE TO CHECK ON ANY ELDERLY THEY KNOW ARE LIVING ALONE. SENIORS ARE MORE SUSCEPTIBLE TO HYPOTHERMIA, AND SHOULD KEEP THEIR THERMOSTATS ABOVE 65 DEGREES.
