County Board Approves Revisions To Holiday Schedule

Among the few agenda items approved at Thursday's DeWitt County Board meeting was a motion to approve a revised 2015 holiday schedule for county employees.

width=Outgoing Vice-Chair Pete Daugherty sent out a schedule which would eliminate four holidays for over a dozen DeWitt County employees. The proposed schedule left out Columbus Day, Martin Luther King Day, Spring Day (Good Friday), and Veterans Day. Board Members Danny Ballenger and David Newberg didn't believe it made sense for one side of the courthouse to close while another stay open on those four days.

The amendment to the schedule failed 6-5 as Daugherty, Board Chair Sherrie Brown, Keith Koons, Terry Hoffman, George Wismiller and Ron Savage voted no but the same group voted in favor of Daugherty's proposed schedule. Once the original motion passed, County Clerk Dana Smith and Administrative Assistant Dee Dee Rentmeister gave the Board their opinions of the schedule. Rentmeister says the Board basically told 15 employees they don't deserve to have as many days off.

Thursday's meeting lasted a little over an hour. The Board will re-configure at 5:30pm on December 1st with the swearing in of 5 new Board Members.
