Arson May Be Cause of Early Saturday Morning Fire in Clinton

An early morning fire on the northeast side of Clinton is being investigated as an arson case.

According to Clinton Fire Chief Shawn Milton, just before 1:30 AM Saturday morning, his crews were called to a home in the 700 block of North George Street to a home with an exterior fire that was making it's way into the home.

The Chief indicates a trash can on the outside of the house was the point of origin for the fire. Chief Milton says while the State Fire Marshall has left the case unclassified, they are treating it as arson.

Because the fire happened so early in the morning and the fire was mostly on the exterior of the home, local authorities and residents out noticed the fire and alerted the family to safety. Chief Milton says if it wasn't for those folks, things could ended much worse than they did.

Mutual aid was called in for the fire from Kenney, Maroa, and Wapella. Chief Milton indicates crews were on hand for approximately four hours.
