Accident Shuts Down Part of Highway 51 Tuesday

A two vehicle accident on Tuesday morning shut down parts of US Highway 51.

DeWitt County Sheriff Chief Deputy Mike Walker tells Regional Radio News at approximately 7:30 am Tuesday morning, a semi-tractor trailer was pulling off of Tabor Road, north of Clinton onto US Highway 51, crossing over to the northbound side.

A southbound vehicle in the right driving lane went to switch lanes and in the process lost control of the vehicle and slid into the passenger side of the semi-truck. Walker indicates the vehicle lost control, flipped, and skidded into the center median of the highway.

The accident caused the closure of one of the lane's of southbound Highway 51 for approximately one hour. Walker says crews were on scene until around 9 am.

No injuries were reported and the subjects names were not available through the DeWitt County Sheriff's Department.

The State Police are handling the investigation of the incident.
