Illinois, ISU Loses; Bradley Wins Big

Deandre Burnett scored 19 points and No. 15 Miami beat No. 24 Illinois 70-61 on Tuesday night as part of the ACC/Big Ten Challenge.

Manu Lecomte added 15 points and Sheldon McClellan had 14 for the Hurricanes (8-0), who have won their first eight games for the first time in five years.

Rayvonte Rice had 22 points and 12 rebounds to lead Illinois (6-1) and Malcolm Hill scored 13.

Miami shot under 38 percent for the game and fired up 30 3-pointers, making just nine. Illinois shot under 34 percent and also attempted 30 shots from distance, making only seven.

Melvin Johnson scored 19 points, including five 3-pointers, and VCU held off Illinois State late for a 66-62 win on Tuesday.

Johnson's free throws with 46 seconds left gave VCU (5-2) a 3-point lead. Mo Alie-Cox blocked the next two Illinois State shots and the Redbirds could only manage one more free throw the rest of the way as Briante Weber made a pair from the line for the Rams with 4 seconds left to ice it.

Alie-Cox finished with four blocked shots and eight rebounds. Treveon Graham had 17 points while Jordan Burgess added 10 points and eight boards.

Illinois State was led by DeVaughn Akoon-Purcell with 18 points and seven rebounds. Paris Lee added 12 points and four assists while Daishon Knight finished with 11 points.

Although Illinois State shot 50 percent from the floor, VCU forced 24 turnovers and limited the Redbirds to just 40 field goal attempts.

 width=>>Bradley Rolls Central Michigan

Warren Jones nailed 5 of 10 attempts from long range to post a career-high 33 points and lead Bradley to an 84-73 victory over Central Michigan on Tuesday night.

Omari Grier had 13 points and Auston Barnes added 11 for Bradley (3-4).

Central Michigan led 14-12 midway of the first half, but Grier made a jumper, Jones nailed a 3-pointer, Mike Shaw hit a jump shot and Jones made two more 3-point jumpers to leap out to a 25-14 lead with 7:32 remaining in the first half. Bradley led 37-29 at the break.

Central Michigan's Josh Kozinski hit a 3-pointer to trail 63-55 with 6:23 left in the game but could get no closer.

The Braves shot 24 of 46 while limiting the Chippewas to 21 of 48. Bradley also outmuscled the Chippewas under the boards, grabbing 41 rebounds to 20.

Chris Fowler led Central Michigan (5-1) with 24 points.

(Louisville, KY) -- Wayne Blackshear dropped in a game-high 22 points as fifth-ranked Louisville cruised to a 64-55 win over 13th-ranked Ohio State at the KFC Yum! Center. Montrezl Harrell had 13 points and 10 rebounds for the Cardinals, who improved to 6-and-0. D'Angelo Russell netted 17 points to pace the Buckeyes, who fell to 5-and-1. Marc Loving added 13 points in the setback.

>>Michigan Holds Off Syracuse

Spike Albrecht totaled 11 points and a career-high nine assists with no turnovers off the bench as No. 17 Michigan held off Syracuse, 68-65, in this installment of the ACC/Big Ten Challenge.

Albrecht, who became a household name when he scored 17 first-half points against Louisville in the National Championship game two years ago, broke a 63-63 deadlock when he stepped into an NBA range 3-pointer with 31 seconds to play.

Zak Irvin led Michigan (6-1) with 18 points while LeVert and Ricky Doyle scored 12 apiece. The Wolverines improved to 5-0 at home this season.

Trevor Cooney and Rakeem Christmas had 16 and 15 points, respectively, in the setback. McCullough finished with 10 points and 12 rebounds.

Michigan started 0-for-7 from the floor before Kameron Chatman finally hit a jumper from the free throw line. That bucket sparked a 9-0 Wolverines run, with Irvin canning a 3 and throwing down a dunk in transition during the spurt.

>>Indiana Beats Pittsburgh

Stanford Robinson provided the Hoosiers with 15 points off the bench as Indiana defeated the
Pittsburgh Panthers, 81-69, in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge at Assembly Hall.

James Blackmon, Jr. added 13 points for Indiana (6-1), which also received 11 points courtesy of Yogi Ferrell. Troy Williams contributed 10 points, while Robert Johnson handed out a game-high nine assists.

Chris Jones paced the Panthers (4-3) with 18 points on 6-of-17 shooting from the floor. Josh Newkirk chimed in with 16 points and eight assists, while Michael Young netted 13 points.

>>Minnesota Downs Wake Forest

Andre Hollins poured in 27 points as the Minnesota Golden Gophers eased past the Wake Forest Demon Deacons, 84-69, as part of the ACC/Big Ten Challenge at LJVM Coliseum.

Carlos Morris added 15 points, Joey King tacked on 14 and Maurice Walker finished with 10 for Minnesota (5-2).

Miles Overton netted 14 points off the bench for Wake Forest (4-4). Mitchell Wilbekin and Codi Miller-McIntyre each had 10 points.

Minnesota had a 37-31 edge on the glass and outscored Wake Forest, 34-28, in the paint.

Vince Edwards scored 16 points as the Purdue Boilermakers held off the NC State Wolfpack for a 66-61 victory in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge at Mackey Arena.

A.J. Hammons netted the game's final four points en route to 15 points for Purdue (6-1), while Isaac Haas added 13 points.

Kyle Washington provided the Wolfpack (6-1) a spark off the bench with a game- high 17 points. Trevor Lacey chipped in 15 points.

Although Purdue hit on just 32 percent shooting from the field after the break, it managed to extend its lead with a 12-of-17 clip at the charity stripe. The Wolfpack converted only 2-of-8 free-throw tries in the second half. NC State was held scoreless for the final 3:15 of the contest.

Purdue enjoyed a 37-31 edge in the rebounding battle, which led to a 22-14 advantage in second chance points.
