Illinois State, Illinois Win Over Weekend

MiKyle McIntosh scored 18 points to lead Illinois State over UAB 78-74 on Sunday.

McIntosh was 7 of 10 from the floor. Daishon Knight had 14 points on 7-of-8 shooting and DeVaughn Akoon-Purcell added 13 points. Reggie Lynch had six blocked shots for Illinois State (4-3).

UAB (3-6) was paced by Robert Brown with a career-high 27 points. He made a career-high seven 3-pointers on nine attempts.

Following Akoon-Purcell's dunk at 11:15 of the first half Illinois State led 22-9. But Brown hit a trio of 3s to lead UAB on a 10-0 run and the Blazers trailed by six at intermission.

They cut the deficit to one with 1:11 left on another Brown 3-pointer but Denzel Watts missed a 3-pointer with 10 seconds left and Tony Wills made four straight free throws to seal the win.

Shaq Goodwin scored 15 points and grabbed 12 rebounds, pacing Memphis to a 73-45 victory over Bradley on Saturday night.

The Tigers (3-3) shot 42.9 percent from the field and committed just eight turnovers. Avery Woodson and Nick King each added 11 points, and Austin Nichols had nine with four blocks. Goodwin was 4 of 7 from the field and 7 of 12 from the line.

Memphis limited Bradley (3-5) to 13-of-48 shooting (27.1 percent). Omari Grier led the Braves with 14 points, but no other Bradley players had more than seven.

The Tigers put on a show with eight first-half dunks. A string of dunks from Nichols, King, Pookie Powell and Markel Crawford sparked a 16-7 run to close the first half and give Memphis a 34-20 lead.

Bradley pulled within six in the second half, but Memphis put on the throttle and outscored the Braves 36-14 from there.

Malcolm Hill scored 13 points as Illinois defeated American 70-55 on Saturday.

The Illini (7-1) only led by two points midway through the first half, but a 17-2 run put the Eagles (5-4) in an early deficit.

American whittled the lead to eight with 10:42 remaining in the second half. But the Illini's Jaylon Tate had a three-point play and Hill drained a 3-pointer off a steal on the next possession.

Nnanna Egwu chipped in five points and seven rebounds, while Rayvonte Rice worked his way through a shooting slump, 1-of-7 from the field, to finish with 10 points.

After consecutive poor shooting performances against Baylor and Miami, the Illinois offense was back to its usual form. The Illini shot 48.1 percent from the floor in the first half.

Pee Wee Gardner led American with 16 points.
