Local Veterans Assisting Veterans At Danville's VA Hospital

Clinton's Am-Vets are doing a special collection this holiday season to support their peers in Danville, Illinois.

According to Jesse Owens, they are looking for basic necessities and clothes. He stresses any clothing items need to be in either new or like new condition.

Along with the Am-Vets in this effort, Clinton's Walgreen's is doing a candy bar drive also that will go to the Danville facility. Owens explains the Walgreen's effort has been going much longer than theirs but he says both are good avenues to support veterans in need.

You can support the Am-Vets and the Danville veterans hospital through more ways than just tangible contributions. Owens explains financial contributions can go a long ways as well.

The supply drive for the Danville Veterans hospital is underway. Donations can be taken to Darvin's Barber Shop in downtown Clinton. Donations will be accepted all the way up to the 21st of December with a group of Am-Vets to go to Danville on the 22nd.

Local veteran activist Jeff Morlock is challenging area businesses to step up and help a good cause. He hopes to draw interest in this drive not just from the residential community, but from the business community also.

To find out more about the drive, contact Owens at 217-413-7960 or Darvin Volker at 217-935-3551.

Morlock and Owens also encourage any current service men or women who are on active duty and will be coming home to contact them about a special escort home they have done recently. They also hope any veterans who haven't yet had the opportunity to participate in the Honor Flights to contact them about doing so.
