The Chicago White Sox are bolstering their starting rotation. They have acquired right-hander Jeff Samardzija [[ suh-MAR-jah ]] and pitching prospect Michael Ynoa [[ IN-oh-ah ]] from the Oakland Athletics in exchange for infielder Marcus Semien [[ SIM-ee-in ]] and prospects Chris Bassitt, Josh Phegley and Rangel Ravelo. Samardzija went 7-and-13 with a 2.99 ERA in 33 starts between the Cubs and the A's. The 29-year-old was dealt from the Cubs to the Athletics with Jason Hammel in July for three players.
