The DeWitt County Angel Tree is wrapping up another holiday season of giving back to the community.
The Clinton Police , Farmer City Police and DeWitt County Sheriff's Departments joined forces with Angel Tree for Shop with a Cop the past week. 17 kids were able to shop for Christmas with a police officer at the Clinton Wal-Mart. Sue Calvert, with Angel Tree, explains Wal-Mart provides a two-thousand dollar grant for the event.
The last event for Angel Tree in 2014 will be Shop with a Fireman. Calvert notes the children participating are additions to the kids Angel Tress serves during the Christmas season.
This year's Angel Tree distribution were able to help over 500 kids this year. Those not adopted still had gifts purchased by last minute donors who provided the needed items as well. Calvert adds the generosity of DeWitt County never ceases to amaze her.
Calvert stresses Angel Tree will still assist any emergency cases that arise through Christmas. They will also help after Christmas for needed items such as winter coats.
