Illinois Beats Mizzou On Buzzer Beater; ISU, Bradley Fall

 width=Rayvonte Rice hit a 3-pointer at the buzzer for the last of his 19 points, giving Illinois a 62-59 victory over Missouri in the annual Braggin' Rights game on Saturday.

Rice also had seven rebounds and three assists and Illinois (9-3) had a tougher time than expected against Missouri (5-6), which is rebuilding under new coach Kim Anderson. Ahmad Starks added 13 points and Malcolm Hil had 10.

After Wesley Clark's jumper from the key tied it with 17.8 seconds remaining, Illinois left the game in Rice's hands. He dribbled for several seconds before stepping up the key and drilling a fade-away shot over defenders Keith Shamburger and Johnathan Williams III.

Williams had 15 points and eight rebounds for Missouri. Clark added 11 points, five rebounds and three assists and also tied it at 55 with 4:40 to go.

 width=>>Bradley Falls To UC-Irvine

Travis Souza hit four 3-pointers and finished with 12 points to lead UC Irvine in a strong second half to get past Bradley 55-47 in the opening round of the Las Vegas Holiday Hoops Classic on Sunday.

Bradley led by as many as 14 points in the first half and led 27-22 at the break. UC Irvine opened the second half on a 13-0 run to take a 35-27 lead, and had a 12-point lead with about ten minutes remaining. The Braves pulled within 51-47 with 1:22 left, but the Anteaters made four of six free throws to seal it.

Bradley (4-7) made just 3 of 29 shots from the field in the second half, and finished on 26.8 percent shooting overall. Omari Grier led the Braves with 13 points.

Jaron Martin added 10 points, and Luke Nelson made 6 of 9 free throws for UC Irvine (5-5).

 width=>>Murray State Races Past Illinois State

Jarvis Williams scored 21 points and Cameron Payne had 20 and Murray State took control in the second half to defeat Illinois State 89-77 on Saturday.

Jeffery Moss added 14 points and Justin Seymour came off the bench for 13 for the Racers (8-4).

Daishon Knight hit four 3-pointers and had 26 points for the Redbirds (6-4) while Tony Williams added 14.

Murray State shot 52 percent in the first half but trailed the Redbirds 42-37 as Knight poured in 16 points. Then the Racers hit 17 of 24 shots in the second half to take control.

There were 12 lead changes but Murray State opened the second half with a 14-4 run to take the lead for good, although the margin didn't hit double figures until the final six minutes.

The only other time the two teams met was 43 years ago when Doug Collins scored 29 points for the Redbirds in an 85-74 loss.
