Knife-Wielding Sushi Chef Foils Restaurant Robbery

Authorities say an attempted robbery at a Champaign sushi restaurant unraveled when the suspect concluded the pellet gun he was holding was no match for the large, shiny and really sharp knife the restaurant's chef was holding.

The attempted robbery happened Tuesday night at the Kamakura Japanese restaurant. 23-year-old Clayton Dial of Ogden allegedly pulled out his weapon and demanded money from the hostess. Sushi chef Tetsuji Miwa overheard the exchange and grabbed his knife - the sight of which prompted the suspect to run away.

Miwa and two co-workers chased Dial and captured him outside. They held him - without using the knife - until police arrived. On Thursday, Dial remained in the county jail.
