Blues Blast Coyotes; Blackhawks Blanked Despite 54 Shots on Goal

(Glendale, AZ) -- David Backes scored four goals to lead the Blues to a 6-0 rout of the Coyotes at Gila River Arena. Brian Elliott made 23 saves for his second shutout of the season and 27th of his career. Paul Stastny [[ STAZ-nee ]] added a goal and an assist, while Jaden Schwartz also lit the lamp for St. Louis, which has won two in-a-row . T.J. Oshie posted three helpers in the victory. Mike Smith surrendered all six goals on 39 shots for the 'Yotes, who have lost two-of-three since a three-game winning streak.

Nathan MacKinnon scored and set up a goal by Maxime Talbot in the opening 1:17, Semyon Varlamov finished with 54 saves for his third shutout of the season and the Colorado Avalanche beat the Chicago Blackhawks 2-0 on Tuesday night.

Colorado was outshot by 30 but held on for its third win in four games behind Varlamov's 16th career shutout. The Avalanche improved to 7-3-2 in their last 12.

 width=Corey Crawford finished with 22 saves for the Blackhawks, who had a season high in shots and dominated the pace as the game progressed. However, Chicago was blanked for the third time this season.
