Rauner To Take Oath Today for Governor

Bruce Rauner will take the oath of office as governor Monday during a ceremony that begins at 11 a.m.

Rauner will be the first Republican governor in a dozen years and the state's 42nd.

The new governor's swearing in will be followed by those of Republican Lt. Gov. Evelyn Sanguinetti (san-gwin-NET'-tee), Democratic Attorney General Lisa Madigan and Secretary of State Jesse White, appointed Republican Comptroller Leslie Munger and Michael Frerichs (FRAYR'-ikz), the Democratic treasurer.

The event will feature a moment of silence for Judy Baar Topinka, who was elected to a second term as comptroller but died suddenly in December.

Rauner will have an Old State Capitol open house and the night will be capped by a concert by country star Toby Keith.
