Barickman Says There Are Different Ways To Address Budget

There are other options beyond just cuts and tax increases for Illinois to right its sinking financial ship.

Governor Bruce Rauner is expected to lay out significant budget details in the near future with both his State of the State and budget addresses, but some lawmakers say they already have some ideas on where sacrifices can be made. State Senator Andy Manar says Rauner’s call to hold the line on discretionary spending is a good start. Representative Scott Drury says reforming the prisons and how the state deals with mental illness can save the state money. State Senator Sam McCann says there needs to be significant reforms for Medicaid. But one lawmaker says more cuts aren’t and taxes the only options. Illinois News Network has more:

During their inauguration, House Speaker Mike Madigan said Illinois is facing an estimated budget shortfall over the next few years of over ten-billion dollars.
