Georgetown Upsets Villanova, Coach K Approaching 1000 Wins

(Washington, DC) -- D'Vauntes Smith-Rivera and Isaac Copeland scored 17 points apiece as Georgetown blew out fourth-ranked Villanova 78-58 in Washington, DC. The Hoyas took control of the game with a 17-0 run in the first half. Jabril Trawick chipped in with 10 points as Georgetown moved to 5-and-2 in Big East play and 13-and-5. Ryan Arcidiacono netted 16 points for the Wildcats, who fell to 4-and-2 in the Big East and 17-and-2 overall.

(Durham, NC) -- Mike Krzyzewski [[ shuh-SHEFF-ski ]] is on the brink of history following Duke's 79-65 win over Pitt. Krzyzewski now has 999 career victories as a head coach. The Hall of Famer will attempt to become the first coach in Division One history to reach 1,000 career wins when sixth-ranked Duke squares off with St. John's at Madison Square Garden on Sunday.

>>North Carolina Hires Chizik As Defensive Coordinator

(Chapel Hill, NC) -- Former BCS national championship head coach Gene Chizik [[ CHIZZ-ick ]] is heading to the University of North Carolina as a defensive coordinator. He served as the Auburn Tigers head coach from 2009 to 2012, but was fired after a 3-and-9 season. He was the Texas Longhorns' defensive coordinator during their 2005 national title season, and at Auburn in 2004 when the Tigers went unbeaten. The Tar Heels finished 117th in total defense this past season. UNC allowed 40 or more points six times, and 50 or more points three times, ending the year 6-and-7 with a loss to Rutgers in the Quick Lane Bowl.
