ISU Slugger Named Preseason All-American

 width=Illinois State redshirt junior infielder/catcher Paul DeJong has been named a 2015 Louisville Slugger Preseason All-American, the organization announced Friday. DeJong was a third-team selection.

DeJong, a native of Antioch, Illinois, led the Redbirds with a .349 batting average and a .596 slugging percentage in 2014. He appeared in 54 games (all starts) and posted team-high totals of nine home runs, 21 doubles, 48 RBIs and 44 runs.

The infielder/catcher ranked third in the Missouri Valley Conference in batting average and slugging percentage. DeJong ranked fourth among MVC players in on-base percentage (.430). He led the league in doubles, while ranking second in hits (76) and total bases (130).

The Illinois State baseball team open the 2015 season on Feb. 13 at Arkansas State. The Redbirds will also play non-conference series at Southeast Missouri State and 2014 College World Series champion Vanderbilt, before playing eight games over 10 days in Florida in March. The Redbirds will host their home opener on March 18 against Illinois-Chicago.

Illinois State finished the 2014 season with a 33-22 and advanced to the MVC Tournament's title game.
