Decision By Congress Will Effect Social Security

Recent decisions made by Washington could affect Social Security payments according to a local organization.

Social Security funds go towards various groups of people. A shortfall in disability Social Security has been predicted for 2016, and money can be redirected within the social security umbrella when a shortage is predicted. According to Lynn Scoville, Executive Director of the DeWitt County Human Resource Center, only eighty percent of funds have been projected to be distributed to recipients.

Congress recently decided not to allow reallocation of Social Security funds. Because of that, it will have a greater impact on disability recipients as opposed to retirement recipients. Scovill points out disability beneficiaries receive their funds for a reason and need the support that money provide.

The rule for fund allocating will remain in effect until a new Congress is seated in 2016.
