>>Former Mets GM Joins MLBPA

Former New York Mets general manager Omar Minaya is joining the Major League Baseball Players Association staff as a senior advisor to executive director Tony Clark.

Minaya spent the past three years with the San Diego Padres as a senior vice president of baseball operations.

 width=The 56-year-old Minaya will focus on the areas of domestic game development and international affairs and play.

Minaya became baseball's first Hispanic general manager when the Montreal Expos hired him in 2002. From 2005-10, he was the Mets' GM.

>>Werth To Serve Five Days In Jail

(Fairfax, VA) -- Washington Nationals outfielder Jayson Werth will serve a five-day jail sentence. Werth has pleaded guilty to reckless driving after Fairfax County Police say they clocked him doing at least 105 miles-per-hour in a 55 mile-per-hour zone last summer. He had been sentenced to ten days in jail last month, but appealed the case and decided to enter a guilty plea. Werth was driving his Porsche on the Capital Beltway at the time of the incident.
