A local lawmaker is hoping to garner up local leaders and residents to support the Exelon Nuclear Clinton Power Station.
Rep. Bill Mitchell has organized a petition to support Exelon and their presence in the community. According to Marian Brisard, Executive Director of the Clinton Chamber of Commerce, Rep. Mitchell will be stopping by the DeWitt County Building Friday to rally support from local leaders and citizens around the Exelon Nuclear Power Station.
Brisard indicates the presence of Exelon in the Clinton community is very important. She explains they provide hundreds of jobs to local residents and the dollars those residents and employees spend in Clinton is vital to the local economy.
Not only is Exelon a major economic driver to the local economy, but Brisard calls Exelon a "great friend to the chamber". Exelon employees help out in dozens of efforts across the city and the company lends its financial support to many more efforts within the community.
Rep. Mitchell has invited local leaders and residents to the DeWitt County Building at 11 am Friday morning to sign the petition. There are also electronic versions of the petition available through the Clinton Chamber's Facebook page.
