A long time DeWitt County official's resignation announcement left many in attendance of the Thursday night DeWitt County Board meeting upset.
DeWitt County Treasurer Christy Long announced her resignation via a letter read before the Board by Dana Smith (standing right), the County's Clerk and Recorder. A shaken Smith read the letter that thanked the County residents and those in her office.
Board Chair David Newberg, also visibly upset with the news, calls Long a "treasure" of the County. He thanked her for her many years of service to the County.
Long has announced her final day as Treasurer will be February 28. Gloria Willis was named the interim Treasurer effective March 1.
The Republican Central Committee will be charged with naming her replacement.
