As heard on 95.9 WEZC and streamed live on dewittdailynews.com, the Monticello Sages were defeated by the St. Joseph-Ogden Spartans 34-33 in Sectional Semifinal action Wednesday night.

With less than a minute remaining, Monticello led 33-30, but a trio of miscues of allowed the Spartans back into the ballgame and ultimately finishing the final minute with four unanswered points.

After St. Joe-Ogden took a 14-11 lead into the fourth quarter, neither team would finish a quarter in double-figure scoring in what quickly became a physical and well defended chess matchup between the two Okaw Valley Conference schools.

For the Sages (20-6), Noah Freemon lead the game with 14 points. Zach Fisher added 13 points and six rebounds.

Monticello shot 47% from the floor.

For the Spartans (24-5), Brandon Triable and Tyler Harris had 12 points apiece. Trimble and Connor Janes each pulled down five boards apiece.

St. Joe-Ogden shot just 39% from the floor and went 0-10 from beyond the arc.

With the win, St. Joseph-Ogden will move on to a Sectional Championship game against Decatur St. Teresa Friday night at 7pm.
