DeWitt County Board Member Concerned Over Potential Wind Farm

A DeWitt County Board member recently addressed the Land Use committee about the prospects of a wind farm that could ultimately come to DeWitt County.

Board member Terry Ferguson says the County's ordinance regarding wind farm regulations was well thought out, but it was last visited in 2009 and since then, much has changed in that industry. The Board member says a recent visit with Illinois Farm Bureau officials leave him with many concerns.

There are current battles going on around the state over the effects of these wind farms that are being proposed elsewhere. According to Ferguson, the effects these machines have can bring some health concerns for the low resonance vibrations they give off.

Ferguson is hoping the County will revisit the ordinance in place. In June, more presentations are set for this proposal in DeWitt County. Ferguson points to nearby communities who have adjusted their ordinances based on the issues the machines have.

Ferguson appreciates property rights and landowners privilege to do what they wish with their property, however, he feels if it is going to effect their neighbors and could have health impacts on them, he feels those things should be looked at a little closer.
