Texas Rangers starter Yu Darvish will have Tommy John surgery on his pitching elbow, the team said Friday, meaning the ace right-hander will miss the upcoming season.
The reconstructive surgery on the ulnar collateral ligament in his right elbow will be performed Tuesday in Pensacola, Florida, by Dr. James Andrews, Rangers spokesman John Blake said.
The team revealed last week that Darvish, 28, had a sprained UCL that might require the season-ending surgery so common these days.
Darvish underwent an MRI exam last Friday after pitching just one inning in his spring debut.
He missed the final seven weeks last season due to mild inflammation in his right elbow.
