DCDC Receives Funding From City Council By Slim Margin

The Clinton City Council's support of the DeWitt County Development Council, or DCDC, seems to be diminishing.

By a vote of 3-2 Monday night, the DCDC received renewed support of $47-thousand in funding from the Clinton City Council. Commissioner John Wise indicates he was approached recently about questions and concerns over the DCDC's operations, however, Commissioner Wise says, it's a little late in the game to be bringing those forward.

While Wise expressed his support for the DCDC, he says maybe the organization needs to be examined a little closer. He believes it is the duty of the Council to investigate what day-to-day operations look like and where the money they receive goes towards.

Wise emphasizes, the DCDC's role is to bring economic development to DeWitt County as a whole and not just Clinton. The DCDC receives funding from Farmer City, DeWitt County and the City of Clinton.

The vote of 3-2 was supported by Wise, Commissioner Tom Edmunds and the deciding vote was Mayor Carolyn Peters. Nan Crang and Jerry Milton voted 'no'.
