The San Francisco 49ers officially signed running back Reggie Bush on Wednesday.
Bush, released by the Detroit Lions last month, is returning to the state of California on a one-year contract.
The former USC star delivered his second career 1,000-yard rushing season with the Lions in 2013, but saw his production drop during an injury-plagued 2014 season. Limited to just 11 games, the 30-year-old managed just 297 yards and two touchdowns on 76 carries, though he did record 40 receptions totaling 253 yards.
The nine-year veteran will likely serve as the 49ers' primary back on passing downs while splitting ball-carrying duties with promising second-year pro Carlos Hyde.
Frank Gore, San Francisco's leading rusher in each of the last 10 seasons, signed with Indianapolis on Tuesday's first day of free agency.
