Crawford Leads Blackhawks Past Hurricanes

 width=Corey Crawford stole two points for Chicago on Monday night.

The Blackhawks goaltender made 43 saves, 15 in the third period, to backstop his team to a 3-1 win over the Carolina Hurricanes.

Andrew Shaw opened the scoring and added an empty-net goal for Chicago, which was coming off a 4-0 loss to Dallas on Saturday and trails Central Division- leading St. Louis by three points with a game in hand.

Two personal milestones were reached by members of the Blackhawks. Captain Jonathan Toews picked up the 500th point of his career with an assist on Shaw's second tally with 40 seconds remaining, and Joel Quenneville earned his 750th win as a head coach.

Anton Khudobin stopped 22 shots for the Hurricanes, who have dropped four straight and seven of their last eight games overall.

Two goaltenders -- Winnipeg Jets netminder Ondrej Pavelec and Tampa Bay's Ben Bishop -- along with Ottawa Senators forward Kyle Turris were selected as the NHL's top players for the week ending March 22.

Pavelec earned the First Star after posting a 3-0-0 record, league-best .970 save percentage and 0.97 GAA to help the Jets jump into the final wild-card slot in the Western Conference. His best performance of the week was a 28- save, 3-0 shutout victory over Washington on Saturday night.

Turris netted the Second Star honors by posting an NHL-best four goals and tied for the lead with six points as Ottawa recorded three victories to remain in the playoff chase. He posted three points (2G, 1A) in a 6-4 win over the Bruins last Thursday.

Bishop took home Third Star after he won all three of his starts last week, posting a 2.00 GAA and .935 save percentage for the Lightning, who are challenging Montreal for the top spot in the Atlantic Division.
