Author Says Illinois Business Climate Not Welcoming

More than two-thousand workers in the southwestern Illinois town of Granite City are facing layoffs in the face of U.S. Steel’s planned operations consolidation. A press release from U.S. Steel says they plan to consolidate their North American Flat-Rolled operations which will mean a temporary idle of the Granite City outfit, though for how long is uncertain. The release says the move reflects market conditions like steel prices, unfair trade, imports and fluctuating oil prices. Illinois News Network has more:

In the press release from U.S. Steel the company indicates their operations will remain in Alabama, and Pennsylvania, as well as Illinois’ neighboring states Indiana, and Michigan.
