Mayoral Candidates Differ On Video Game Machines in Community

If you are looking for an area where the two Clinton Mayoral candidates differ, look no further than the subject of video gambling.

The State of Illinois allows communities to decide if and how many electronic video gambling devices are in their respective communities. The City of Clinton currently allows them, and the two mayor candidates have differing views on them. For challenger Roger Cyrulik, he feels the gaming machines are a good source of revenue for the city.

However, Mayor Carolyn Peters does not want to see anymore gaming in the bars and restaurants. She feels there will come a point that the video gambling market in Clinton will be so "saturated" it will hurt the groups and organizations that depend on them.

The Mayor adds the city does not control truck stops. She points to the Clinton Shell station which recently was able to get a "truck stop" designation. She explains they were able to get a lease from Dairy Queen next to them to get the necessary five acres to get the designation. The Mayor notes that is why the gaming machines are in that establishment and does not believe they should have the designation of "truck stop".
