Rauner Promoting Ambitious Criminal Justice Reform Plan

A prison reform commission formed by Governor Bruce Rauner has been assigned one tough task.

Rauner wants them to craft ways to cut the state's overcrowded inmate population and he's not thinking small.

Illinois' current prison population of about 48,000 would drop to nearly 36,000 by 2025. If Rauner and the commission are successful, the prison system would still be overcrowded because it was designed for 32,000 inmates.
