Illinois' climate was a bit warmer than usual last month.
In a news release, Illinois State Climatologist Jim Angel says that despite a few cold stretches, the average temperature was 54.1 degrees - 1.7 degrees above average in April.
Angel also says rainfall in northern and central Illinois ranged from 2-4 inches - or slightly below what those areas see in the average April. But the 4-7 inches in southern Illinois made April a slightly wetter than normal.
The wettest area of the state was at Fort Massac State Park along the Ohio River in the far southern end of the state. There, 7.80 inches of rain fell.
