Hundreds Rally In Springfield For Exelon

That was the rally cry of hundreds of supporters that filled the Illinois State Capitol's rotunda Wednesday afternoon in an effort to send lawmakers a message that they care about the future of Exelon nuclear power stations across the state.

Locally, Clinton and DeWitt County was represented by 60 dignitaries, leaders and citizens. Nearly each of the 60 came away from the day at the Capitol pleased with the turnout and are optimistic on the future of nuclear power across the state.

According to Brett Nauman, Communications Director at Exelon, the rally was aimed at bring Illinois to a standard that would allow all energy types to compete on a level playing field. He says legislation in Springfield right now would allow that to happen.

Marian Brisard is the Executive Director of the Clinton Chamber of Commerce, she feels the rally was a big deal. She hopes the efforts of the hundreds that turned out will make a difference.

As a part of the rally, those in attendance were asked to seek out their representatives and senators to encourage them to support the low carbon legislation. Ruth Stuaffer, Executive Director of the DeWitt County Development Council, was impressed by the turnout and amount of voices that care about this issues.

Clinton Mayor Roger Cyrulik felt the rally was worth while and was very pleased with the showing by Clinton and DeWitt County.

Rennie Cluver is the Executive Director of the Clinton YMCA, but has also served in a number of other capacities. He says while the effort is certainly a benefit for Clinton and DeWitt County, the initiative as a whole is something everyone should be able to get behind.

 width=Many lawmakers were unable to be directly reached because of committee meetings going on this week.
