Florida has hired Louisiana Tech's Michael White as its head men's basketball coach.

White has agreed in principle to a six-year deal at an average of $2 million per year. He replaces Billy Donovan, who left Florida last week to take over as the Oklahoma City Thunder's head coach.

White, the 2014-15 Conference USA Coach of the Year, comes to the Gators after leading Louisiana Tech to a 101-40 record over the past four seasons, including three straight conference championships.

Donovan spent 19 seasons at Florida, guiding the Gators to a record of 467-186 with back-to-back national championships in 2006 and 2007. This year's squad finished 16-17, marking his first losing season since his second year with the Gators.

Quarterback Everett Golson says he's transferring from Notre Dame to play his final season at another school.

Golson told FoxSports.com in a statement that he made the decision "after much thought, prayer and discussion with my family."

Golson will graduate from Notre Dame this semester and will not have to sit out a year to play at another school.

He played two seasons at Notre Dame, 2012 and 2014, and passed for 5,850 yards and 41 touchdowns with 20 interceptions. He rushed 208 times for 581 yards and 14 scores.

Golson, 22, led the Irish to an undefeated 2012 regular season and a berth in the BCS National Championship game against Alabama as a redshirt freshman, but was suspended for the entire 2013 season over an academic issue.
