Cancer Society Blasts Rauner Cuts

The American Cancer Society is preaching the message of breast and cervical cancer detection and prevention in time for Mother's Day. But this time, the talk isn't dominated by awareness or a colored ribbon for the cause. Cancer Society Director of Govt. Relations Heather Eagleton says Rauner's proposed 71% funding cut to the Illinois breast and cervical cancer program would mean a 50% reduction in the number of women served. The program provides women without healthcare coverage free mammograms, pap tests, breast exams and pelvic exams.... Recipients also would no longer be guaranteed medicaid coverage if cancer is discovered during those exams,;...

The issue is personal for State Representative Mike Smiddy, a Hillsdale Democrat, His wife is a breast cancer survivor and he isn't mincing words about Rauner's proposed cut...
