Trojans Top Maroons In 2A Softball Regional

 width=As heard on WHOW, the Clinton Lady Maroons fell to Maroa-Forsyth 4 to 1 Tuesday night in Class 2A Regional Softball action at Forsyth.

Clinton took a 1 - 0 lead in the bottom of the 3rd when Megan Tool's RBI single scored Haley Ginger, however the lead was short lived.  The Trojans answered back by scoring two in the top of the 4th; highlighted by back-to-back triples from Bailey Martin and Cayla Wickenhauser.  M-F went on to add two more runs in the top of the 5th.  Martin paced the Trojans attack going 2 for 3 with a triple and 2 runs scored.

Kate Beckmeyer pitched an outstanding game for the Lady Trojans.  At one point she retired 11 Maroons is a row enroute to her 9th win of the season.  She finished with a line of 7 innings pitched, allowing only one run on 5 hits, striking out 8, and only walking 1.

Alexis Estes took the loss for Clinton, dropping her record to 20-4 for the season.  Estes pitched 7 innings, allowing 4 runs, only 2 of which were earned.  Estes struck out 6, but gave up 8 hits and walked 3.

Clinton's season ends with a record of 21-5, and they claimed the inagural Central Illinois Conference Championship with a 13-1 conference record.

Maroa-Forsyth, who are now 14-7 on the season, advance to take on top seeded Monticello Saturday morning at 11am at Forsyth Park.  You can hear that game on 95.9FM WEZC.
