Jones No Hits Tuscola As Monticello Advances At Regionals

Tyler Jones no-hit Tuscola across five innings and Monticello pounded Tuscola 10-0 in five in innings Wednesday night in Tuscola to advance to a Regional Final Saturday morning.

Despite a day of rain across Illinois, baseball was played in Tuscola Tuesday night, resulting in the start time of a game between Monticello and Tuscola being delayed by two hours.

 width=Monticello wasted no time getting on the board to start the game. With one out in the bottom of the first, Ryne Bundy went yard with an opposite field home run. With two outs, Jacob Burton drew a walk, Daniel Peterson took a pitch to right field for a base hit and Austin Hopper followed with a walk to load the bases.

Konnor Bundy then dropped a single into right field to score Burton and Peterson.

The Sages would go off for another six in the second. Five straight Sages would reach to start the second. Ryne Bundy, Burton and Hopper would record RBI singles and would also have runners picked off at home on base running mistakes before Konnor Bundy capped the inning with a two-run home run.

Monticello went down scoreless in the third and fourth innings, but in th fifth, they had a chance to end the ballgame with a 9-0 lead. Nathan Mumm started the inning with a single, Ryne Bundy would reach via an error and David Vanderkloot walked to load the bases.

On the first pitch of the at bat to Burton, the pitch short-hopped Tuscola catcher Nick Bates, jumped to the backstop, allowing Mumm to score from third and end the game for the Sages.

Monticello will meet the top seed of the Regional, St. Joseph-Ogden Saturday morning at 11 am.

Tuscola finishes their season at 28-8.
